Tourist

The tourist trudges through the city and feels lost. This is often the result of the pretence to be a traveller. Instead of preparing, reading the travel guide, drawing up a list of priorities and making use of the extensive touristic infrastructure that the city has to offer, our modern Marco Polo wants to let fate take its course, see what will come his way. And what comes his way is nothing special: in residential areas people are living, in other areas you have restaurants, shops, just like at home. He walks endlessly along the wrong boulevard, only to end up in a diner of sorts. There he slurps away a plate of so-called spaghetti bolognese, indistinguishable from watery tomato soup. Behind a curtainless window, a woman sets the table. The city remains a hermetically sealed whole.
